Napoleon has until 1796 to conquer the entire map. Playing as Alexander the Great, you must capture all the lands no later than 336 BC. For users who have completely completed the original, the add-on provides four new campaigns.
Three new Wonders of the World can be found in buildings: Hanging Gardens, Forbidden City, and Red Fort. The player also has six new nations with unique advantages: Dutch, Americans, Persians, Dakota, Indians and Iroquois. The addon adds to the gameplay the ability to choose the type of government. Thrones and Patriots is a standalone add-on to the original game that can be launched separately. Wonders of the world have special properties that give the player some advantages if he built the object before the opponent. For example, a player will not be able to build a Supercollider before the Information Age. In Rise of Nations: Extended Edition, there are Wonders of the World that can be built at specific times.
Settlements are key objects in the game: only within their walls, the player can hire workers to extract resources, build city-forming buildings, including economic ones, and in the city characters can hide from enemies and shoot at them.
